Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes were harvested by hand. Fermentation in whole bunches with indigenous yeast in fibreglass tanks. Aged for 10 months in a combination of old oak barrels and tanks. No filtration or fining. Small amount of added sulphur on bottling.
This Wine: Natural Beaujolais made with grapes close to the Fleurie appellation. This is very light and juicy but with some delicate complexity. Fruit forward but with a great mineral side to balance.
Notes on the Winemaker: Justin Dutraive is the son of Jean-Louis Dutraive (Domaine de la Grand'Cour), a Beaujolais legend. He trained abroad and then locally with some of the big winemaking names such as Julie Balagny and Jean Foillard before beginning his own project in 2015. Coming from a family that have championed organic viticulture for so long, it's no surprise that Justin has adopted this same philosophy.
