Gamay
Chateau Roulant 2023
Camus
Grape Variety: Gamay
Producer: Benoit Camus
Region: Villes-sur-Jarnioux, Beaujolais, France
Wild Scale: 3/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes were harvested by hand. Fermentation in whole bunches with indigenous yeast in fibreglass tanks. Aged for 10 months in a combination of old oak barrels and tanks. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red with a light to medium body. Concentrated fresh fruit with bright, floral and spicy notes. A cooler vintage compared to 2021 which results in a more delicate and refined wine. Great on its own but also versatile food pairing. Château Roulant is the name Benoit gives his caravan and it translates as 'Castle on wheels'!
A PREVIOUS VINTAGE OF THIS WINE WAS VOTED AS THE BEST TASTING WINE AT HIGHBURY LIBRARY WINE CLUB IN JULY 2024
Notes on the Winemaker: If you imagine the romantic idea of a natural winemaker, Benoit Camus is pretty much it. He lives in a caravan between his vines in the south of Beaujolais and farms 4 hectares of Gamay and Chardonnay grapes. He makes natural wines in the truest sense which have a rustic character but still manage to display precision at the same time and always offer great value.
