Grape Variety: Gamay

Producer: Romain Zordan

Region: Fleurie, Beaujolais, France

Wild Scale: 2/5

Vegan friendly wine

12.5% alcohol

Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes were harvested by hand before fermentation with indigenous yeast. Bottled with no filtration or fining and just a small amount of added sulphur.

This Wine: Natural red wine with a light to medium body. Punching well above its price point, this is surprisingly complex with an array of spicy notes that compliment the juicy, fresh fruit very well! Such a steal at this price.

Notes on the Winemaker: Romain Zordan represents the modern generation of natural winemakers redefining the Beaujolais region. Working alongside his family at the historic Château de Grand Pré in Fleurie, Romain has spearheaded a commitment to organic and low-intervention viticulture, with certification achieved in 2012. Inspired by the philosophy of natural wine pioneer Jules Chauvet, Zordan treats his old-vine Gamay and Chardonnay plots with utmost respect for the soil. He eschews synthetic chemical treatments and relies on manual pruning, vine plowing, and hand harvesting to preserve terroir expression. In the cellar, Romain employs gentle semi-carbonic maceration using whole grape bunches and indigenous yeast. His minimal-intervention approach avoids fining, filtration, and added sulphur which results in vibrant yields and pure expressions of crus like Fleurie, Morgon, and Brouilly.
