This Wine: Natural red wine with a light to medium body. Fresh and easy drinking with notable floral elements that compliment the fresh red berries wonderfully. Bargain Gamay from an under-the-radar wine region.

Notes on the Winemaker: Odile and Gilles Verdier, together with their nephew Maxime Logel, are the driving force behind Domaine Verdier-Logel, the leading estate in the tiny, granite-rich Côtes du Forez appellation in the upper Loire Valley, close to the Auvergne. Situated along the volcanic slopes near the source of the Loire River, they are celebrated for putting this remote region on the natural wine map. Certified organic since 1997, the family cultivates old-vine Gamay planted on distinct volcanic basalt and granite soils. Their farming relies strictly on natural composts, cover crops, and manual labor to nurture vine health and honor the unique geology of the Forez mountains. In the cellar, winemaking is gentle and precise. Using indigenous yeast, temperature-controlled fermentations, and minimal sulphur additions, they produce wines that showcase Gamay’s mineral and floral side. Their cuvées range from bright, crunchy, fruit-forward reds to deeply smoky, basalt-driven expressions and are always renowned for their freshness, elegant spice, and great drinkability.
