Gamay
Prologue 2023
Ducroux
Grape Variety: Gamay
Producer: Christian Ducroux
Region: Régnié, Beaujolais, France
Wild Scale: 4/5
Vegan friendly wine
Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes from 90 year old vines were harvested by hand. Whole bunch fermentation with indigenous yeast for 2 weeks in concrete. Only free run juice was used. Aged in old oak barrels for a short period. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Deep and complex red Beaujolais but with a light and delicate body. A wild mix of red and black fruit, violets, spice and earthy undertones. A steal at this price and stands up to food very well.
Notes on the Winemaker: Christian Ducroux is a trailblazer in the Beaujolais wine scene despite still remaining relatively unknown outside of France. His vineyards near the village of Lantignié have been certified organic and biodynamic since the 1980s which illustrates just how dedicated he is to sustainable farming and soil health. He ferments in concrete using whole bunch techniques and never adds anything.
