Region: Saint-Maurice-ès-Allier, Auvergne, France

Wild Scale: 4/5

Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic Gamay grapes from volcanic soils were hand harvested in 2018. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast. The fermentation did not reach completion so marc from the 2021 vintage was added. Aged for 2 years in barrel before being blended with some wine from 2020 and 2022 that had been aged in glass demijohns. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.

This Wine: Still, red wine despite the crown cap. A solera style cuvée made with a blend of different vintages that results in a highly complex wine with a wild edge. A unique take on Gamay that will keep getting better with age! Very small production.

Notes on the Winemaker: Benoit Rosenberger is making beautiful expression of Gamay from his 3 hectares of vines planted on volcanic soils up to 500m above sea level. This superb terroir makes for delicate but impactful wines full of energy and life that are now highly-prized.
