Winemaking: Organic Gewurtztraminer grapes from 50 year old vines were harvested by hand and were macerated in whole bunches for 7 days. Fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old barrels for 1 year. Small amount of Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir was blended into the wine. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Exceptional skin contact wine that shows a beautiful pinky orange colour in the glass. Layer upon layer of complexity and depth with aromas of dried rose petal, coriander seed, pink grapefruit skin, lychee and peach. A unique wine that displays a great texture and can be a versatile pairing for food.
Notes on the Winemaker: After training with some of the great names in natural wine such as Patrick Meyer and Le Coste, Yannick Meckert established his own project following in the footsteps of his parents but taking winemaking in a more organic and holistic direction. In 2019 he produced his first vintage from just under 4 hectares in the Alsatian village of Obernai.
