Winemaking: Organic Syrah, Grolleau and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were hand harvested and underwent fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in an old barrel. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: A brand new red cuvée from the Hodgsons made with grapes that usually go into the O Galarneau cuvée. 2023 was a cooler vintage resulting in a medium bodied wine with with a balance of fresh fruit flavours, a dark earthiness and a hint of bell pepper. Savoury with a cooling, eucalyptus-like finish. Best served with food.
Notes on the Winemaker: Mai & Kenji Hodgson work 4 hectares of vines in Rablay-Sur-Layon. They met in Vancouver before studying winemaking in Japan, eventually settling in this area of the Loire valley. Their wines are impeccably made without any additions yet there is even more potential over the coming years.
