Grolleau
Jackpot 2023
Les Gaules de Bois / Barouillet
Grape Varieties: Grolleau
Producer: Les Gaules de Bois (Vincent Alexis & Romuald Cousy)
Region: Bergerac, Languedoc and Beaujolais, France
Certified Organic
Wild Scale: 3/5
Winemaking: Organic Grolleau grapes were purchased from a grower in the Loire, 7 days carbonic maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: A collaboration between 2 friends looking to experiment with grapes from outside their own region. This is a natural red wine with light body with fresh and candied red cherry flavours. Works slightly chilled too.
Notes on the Winemaker: Vincent Alexis is an eighth generation winemaker in the Bergerac / Monbazillac region south of Bordeaux who makes superb value wines from local varieties under his Chateau Barouillet label. He has teamed up with his friend Romuald Cousy for a side project 'Les Gaules de Bois' where they purchase grapes from outside their own region in order to create lighter, "vin de soif" styles.
