Vaskapu
Grape Variety: Kadarka
Producer: Vaskapu (Géza Galán)
Region: Mohács, Hungary
Wild Scale: 3/5
12% alcohol
Winemaking: Biodynamic Kadarka grapes grown on clay soils were harvested by hand. Some underwent direct press, some de-stemmed and others remained in whole bunches. Fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged for 11 months in a combination of old oak barrels and fibreglass tanks. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine from the Hungarian town of Mohács, close to the Danube river. A medium bodied red wine with soft tannins. Dark fruit flavours, earthy undertones, cracked pepper and something meaty. Paid with a hearty dish. Less than 2000 bottles produced.
Notes on the Winemaker: Géza Galán started making wine as a pastime in 2015 but by 2018 he had bought a cellar and vineyards near the town of Mohács in the south of Hungary. Inspired by other winemakers in central Europe he farms with biodynamic techniques and has a strong desire to create harmony in his vineyards.
