El Pagès Content Orange 2024
La Salada
Grape Variety: 85% Macabeo, 10% Xarel Lo, 5% Sumoll
Producer: La Salada (Toni Carbó & Anna Serra)
Region: Penedès, Catalunya, Spain
Wild Scale: 4/5
Vegan friendly wine
9% alcohol
Winemaking: Organic Macabeo, Xarel Lo and Sumoll grapes were hand harvested and crushed by foot before spending 2 weeks on the skins. Fermented with indigenous yeast in concrete tanks and bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural orange wine made from a blend of white grapes and a splash of redf Sumoll. The drought conditions in 2024 stopped photosynthesis for a while meaning the alcohol only reached 9%. This has ironically resulted in a fresher, easier drinking wine. Still plenty of tropical fruit going on! The name means 'The Happy Farmer' in local dialect.
Notes on the Winemaker: Toni Carbó is one half of the esteemed Cava house (with friend Ramon Jané), Mas Candí in Penedés. He started his own project La Salada with partner Anna Serra in 2012 to focus on making wines like his Grandfather used to. They are some of most sought after as they provide an authentic and honest expression of Catalan terroir.
