Grape Variety: Mencia, Trousseau, Alicante Bouschet, Gran Negro, Doña Blanca, Malvasia

Producer: Bodega La Senda (Diego Losada)

Region: El Bierzo, Castilla y León, Spain

Wild Scale: 3/5

Winemaking: Organic grapes were hand harvested from different plots. Fermented with indigenous yeast in concrete and aged for 1 year. No filtration, fining or added sulphur.

This Wine: Diego suffered with a whole host of weather challenges in 2023 which resulted in a massive loss of grapes from all different plots. He decided to combine all his healthy grapes and create just one red wine, Armageddon! In our opinion, this is one of the best wines Diego has ever made. Beautiful complexity but very drinkable. Red and black fruit with peppery spice and a touch of earth. Light to medium body with soft tannins and fresh acidity. Absolute bargain. Only 2500 bottles produced, 900 of which came to the UK.

Notes on the Winemaker: Diego Losada is very much an outsider in his hometown of Ponferrada in the North of Spain and this was the case even before winemaking. Now he creates wines that stand out amongst the crowd in Bierzo with authentic and true reflections of the region. We have visited him a couple of times to see his vineyards and help him in the winery, always to the soundtrack of Metallica!
