Chekura
Grape Variety: Moscatel de Alejandria (Muscat)
Producer: Chekura (Daniela de Pablo Mendoza & Pablo Pedreros)
Region: Chekura, Itata Valley, Chile
Wild Scale: 4/5
Vegan friendly wine
12.5% alcohol
Winemaking: Organic Moscatel grapes from 100 year old vines (ungrafted) were harvested by hand. Fermentation with indigenous yeast and the juice remained with the skins for 2 weeks. Just the free run juice was aged for 24 months before being bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural skin contact wine from Chile. This is lighter and fresher than the Naranjo thanks to a much shorter period of skin contact. Still great intensity but you expect greener notes and the more herbal side of the Moscatel grape variety. Amazing value.
Notes on the Winemaker: Daniela and Pablo are situated just 25km from the Pacific Ocean in the Itata Valley where they grow Moscatel, País and Cinsault grapes on just 1 hectare of land. They have been working hard to undo the harmful effects on the land from commercial herbicides and pesticides.
