Grape Variety: Pesecká Leánka

Producer: Pivnica Čajkov (Marek Uhnák)

Region:  Slovakia

Wild Scale: 4/5

Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic

Pesecká Leánka grapes were harvested by hand and crushed before spending around 4 to 10 days on the skins when fermentation (with indigenous yeast) began. Free run juice was then moved to old barrels where it aged for a year. Bottled with no fining, filtration and a tiny amount of added sulphur.

This Wine: Natural orange wine with a deep and complex character. Much more intense that Marek's Princess cuvée, this is definitely more of a partner for food. Developed stone fruit, nuts and honey with uplifting floral notes and fresh acidity. Some structure provided from the soft tannins. 12.5% alcohol.

Notes on the Winemaker: Marek Uhnák studied winemaking in the Czech Republic before heading back to his home village of Čajkov in Slovakia to begin making his own wine. His vines are situated in the Caldera hills within the Nitra region which is made up of volcanic soils from the Sitno volcano. He produces wines with organic fruit and no or minimal sulphur additions.
