Winemaking: Organic Pineau d'Aunis grapes 130 year old vines were harvested by hand. De-stemmed before a 5 week maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged in old wooden barrels for 15 months. Bottled with no fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine with a medium body and soft tannins. A sublime expression of the rare and unique Pineau d'Aunis grape that showcases both dark and red fruit with floral and spicy notes including white pepper. Will get better and better with age.
Notes on the Winemaker: Thierry Hesnault makes natural wine in Jasnières, north of the Loire river. He worked with the likes of Jean-Pierre Robinot before he started making his own wine in 2009 after picking up old parcels of Pineau d'Aunis, Chenin Blanc and Gamay. His age-worthy cuvées have developed a cult following over the last 15 years and are known for displaying focussed fruit and minerals that speak of the land from which they are produced.
