Winemaking: Organic Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris grapes grown on schiste soils were harvested by hand. Two thirds of the Pinot Blanc grapes were macerated on the skins whilst the rest, along with the Pinot Gris grapes, underwent direct press. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Bottled before fermentation ended in order to create fizz in the bottle (Pet Nat, Ancestral Method). No dosage or filtration. Small amount of added sulphur on bottling.
This Wine: The most serious tasting vintage yet for this wine, now in its third year. Sparkling orange pet net with a soft and smooth texture. Clean and mineral with stone fruit and citrus flavours.
Notes on the Winemaker: The Durrmann family make wine the village of Andlau on the slopes of Vosges mountains in Alsace. The vineyards have been organic since 1998 and sulphur free cuvees have been produced since 2007 after Yann (the son) took over running the winery.
