Winemaking: Organic Pinot Noir grapes from granite soils were harvested by hand and de-stemmed. Carbonic maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Aged for 1 year in tank. No fining, filtration or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural red wine with a medium body that is made with grapes from two plots around the village of Dambach-la-Ville. A strong mineral influence runs throughout the wine and compliments the juicy red berries and plums on offer here. A touch of smoke on the finish brings further complexity.
Notes on the Winemaker: With a nearly 500 year old history of winemaking in Alsace, Beck-Hartweg is now led by 16 generation winemakers Mathilde and Florian. The 8 hectares of vines have been certified organic since 2011 and the wines are vibrant and expressive, never inhibited by any use of sulphur.
