Grape Variety: Pinot Noir

Producer: Sylvain Pataille

Region: Marsannay, Burgundy, France

Wild Scale: 2/5

Vegan friendly wine

Winemaking: Organic/Biodynamic Pinot Noir grapes from 60 year old vines were harvested by hand. 90% of the grapes remained in whole bunches.  Fermented with indigenous yeast and then aged in old barrels for 18 months. Bottled with no filtration or fining and just a touch of sulphur.

This Wine: Clos du Roy is regarded as one of the best sites within the Marsannay appellation. This is a natural red Burgundy from one of the regions most sought after producers. Full of energy and precision, this is a wine that will only get better with age.

Notes on the Winemaker: Sylvain Pataille is an expert Burgundian winemaker who independently consults for over 20 other producers in the region but also uses biodynamic practices to farm his own 17 hectares in and around the Marsannay appellation. He has the rare ability to create reds and whites of equal prestige (and even rosé too) and uses minimal sulphur and new oak.
