Winemaking: Organic Pinot Noir grapes from 30 year old vines grown on calcareous sandstone soils were hand harvested before 14 day whole bunch, semi-carbonic maceration. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Aged in barrel for 9 months. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: This is Jean-Pierre's most "serious" red wine made with Pinot Noir grapes that come from the Burgundy clone. More on the savoury side with some earthy notes. Best served with food.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
