Producer: Domaine Rietsch
Region: Mittelbergheim, Alsace, France

Vegan friendly wine
Wild Scale: 2/5
Winemaking: Organic Pinot Noir grapes from 30 year old vines grown on calcareous sandstone soils were hand harvested before 12 day whole bunch, semi-carbonic maceration. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. Aged in barrel for 8 months. Bottled with no filtration or fining and just a touch of sulphur.
This Wine: This is Jean-Pierre's most "serious" red wine made with Pinot Noir grapes that come from the Burgundy clone. More on the savoury side with some earthy notes. An age-worthy wine if you can resist opening! Best served with food.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. He has garnered a reputation as a legend in this area and when you try his wines, you'll see why. From rich and complex Riesling to traditional method sparkling wine and skin contact cuvées, his wide range has something for everyone.
