Winemaking: Organic grapes from a Grand Cru vineyard planted on sandstone soil were harvested by hand and underwent whole bunch pressing before fermentation with indigenous yeast. The wine was aged in old barrels on the lees for 8 months. Bottled with a light filtration, no fining and no added sulphur.
This Wine: A serious natural Riesling with great intensity of stone fruit and a touch of the classic petrol notes associated with high end expressions of the grape. The high acidity will ensure this wine will keep getting better for a long time. Great with fish or Asian dishes. The last vintage we had of this cuvée was 2018 so it's great to see it return to the UK after all this time.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jean-Pierre Rietsch is a natural winemaker in the village of Mittelbergheim, Alsace. His estate has been in the family for seven generations but wasn't used for vine cultivation until the 1970s. All of Jean-Pierre's wines are in very high demand but we particularly love his skin-contact cuvees which is a winemaking method rarely seen in Alsace.
