Winemaking: Organic Riesling grapes from 50 year old vines grown on clay and limestone soils were hand harvested. Direct press before fermentation with indigenous yeast. Aged on the lees in old barrels for 11 months. Bottled with no filtration, fining or added sulphur.
This Wine: Natural white wine made from Riesling grapes grown at 250m altitude. Balanced acidity alongside ripe fruit and delicate perfumed notes. This is a complex wine and shows a purity of fruit that leads us to believe it will keep getting better with age.
Notes on the Winemaker: Jeanne Gaston-Breton is located in a small, almost hidden part of Alsace, not too far from the famous winemaking village of Dambach-la-Ville. Here, the biodiversity brings health to the soil and allows the family to produce grapes of the highest quality. Some of the top names in Alsace purchase fruit from Jeanne such as HL favourite Yannick Meckert and with the rest she produces her own beautiful cuvées. The wines reflect this complex terroir perfectly whilst also displaying a purity of fruit and lightness of touch.
