5 Red Wines to Drink this Christmas
Here are our top red wines to drink this Christmas. We have put together five options spanning different styles and budget preferences so hopefully there is something for everyone...
Cha Cha Cha 2024 - Sense Pressa
Beautifully made Syrah from the south of France. Everything is perfectly balanced. Not too much body but great concentration. Dark fruits but bright acidity. Not too wild but plenty of character. Can't really go wrong here, everyone can enjoy this! It won the vote for 'Best wine to share with your family this Christmas' at our December wine club event.
Trutruka 2023 - Jaufré Mas
Another favourite at a recent wine club evening, this Gamay d'Auvergne has more structure than your usual wine made from this variety but is still really fresh. Layer upon layer of complexity. Think dried flowers, a touch of smoke and a hint of earth.
Stierkopf 2022 - Jean-Pierre Rietsch
Next up, some classy Pinot from Jean-Pierre Rietsch in Alsace. Made from a single plot of his best red grapes and now with extra time resting in bottle, this is showing wonderfully. Complex, precise and finds the balance between fruit and savoury notes perfectly.
Anatheme Rouge 2023 - Mont de Marie
When it comes to value for money, not many wines can rival those from Thierry Forestier at Mont de Marie in the Languedoc. Made from a blend of Carignan and local grape Aramon, this clocks in at under 12% alcohol and is full of fresh fruit, cooling herbal notes and bright acidity. A great session wine to share with friends and family over Christmas!
Franko 2024 - Faedesfa
After something a bit more wild? Step this way! Alberto Buratti's (Faedesfa) carbonic maceration Cabernet Franc is back for another vintage and is tasting sublime. Really light but with amazing concentration and energetic acidity, this is the option if you want to throw the cat amongst the pigeons at the Christmas dinner table.
Happy drinking!
