5 Sparkling Wines to Drink this Christmas

Here are our favourite sparkling wines to drink this Christmas. We've picked 4 bottles made in the traditional, Champagne method (December is all about tradition apparently) but also thrown in a Pet Nat to liven things up...

Crémant du Jura 2022 - Les Marnes Blanches

Chardonnay Crémant du Jura 2022 Les Marnes Blanches French Natural Organic Sparkling Wine France

Let's kick off with a beautifully made Crémant from the much celebrated region of the Jura. Domaine des Marnes Blanches is known for making clean and precise wine and that is exactly what you get here. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this is citrus focussed with just enough savoury biscuit character and roundness to balance that acidity. Superb.

Blanc de Blanc Brut Nature - Laherte

Low intervention Champagne that offers depths of complexity whilst maintaining freshness. Again made from Chardonnay grapes across different vintages, this is always our best selling Champagne at Christmas. We also have this wine available in magnum and a quite ridiculous jeroboam which we will be opening ourselves on New Year's Eve if we don't find a home for it by then!

Crémant de Loire - Merceron

If you are after a bargain, this one is for you. No nonsense white Crémant de Loire made from Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc grapes. It spends 18 months on the lees so plenty of body and roundness which means it can stand up to food but is also great as an aperitif. All for just £25!

Crémant d'Alsace 2023/2024 - Rietsch

The iconic penguin is back. Jean-Pierre Rietsch's Crémant d'Alace is always our go-to sparkling wine on Christmas morning whilst we sit round the tree. A blend of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Auxerrois grapes, it presents itself as a fresher alternative to Champagne at a fraction of the price. We also have more complex magnums available from the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 vintages. A cult-classic!

Noctambulle 2022 - Durrmann

Finishing with a Pet Nat for those after something a bit more wild. In contrast to all the other wines here, this is made in the ancestral method which results in a fruitier, fresher style. We absolutely love finishing a big meal with a Pet Nat just like this as it lightens things up and cleanses the palate. Made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris by Yann Durrmann in Alsace, this packs a punch and might not suit everyone round the family table but that's fun right?

Happy drinking!
