Balearic Bottles - New Arrivals from Mallorca

Here at Highbury Library we are big fans of Mallorca's natural wine scene. We have recently received shipments from a trio of exciting winemakers that all put their unique stamp on the wines they produce.

Here is a quick overview;

Sistema Vinari

Eloi Cedó Perello grew up in Catalunya but went to Mallorca to work as a winemaker for 4Kilos whilst also producing his own wine on the side. Later he started operating out of Cati Ribot's cellar where he is now producing some of the island's most exciting natural wines that always find a great balance between precision and rusticity.

Novetat Total 2023 - A litre blend of local red varieties; Fogoneu, Mantonegro and Callet, grown near the village of Felanitx. 2/3 of the grapes were de-stemmed and 1/3 remained in whole bunches which results in a medium bodied wine with pronounced Mediterranean herbal notes.

Furtifato 2023 - The same blend of grapes as Novetat but everything was kept in whole bunches which results in a much lighter red wine that still has amazing concentration and complexity.

Jugo Vins

Charlie Prymaka and his partner Lauren focus on producing easy-drinking natural wines that should be enjoyed with friends. Charlie hails from the UK where he worked in the wine industry before heading to Mallorca where Lauren has family roots. He first worked out of Cati's cellar before moving further south where he is now producing very well priced wines with loads of character.

Jugosa Negre 2023 - A juicy blend of red (Syrah) and white (Moscatel) grapes that bursts with fresh red fruit and aromatic perfumed notes. Drink it chilled, ideally on a beach!

Do It Fluid 2023 - Natural orange wine made from the Mallorcan grape variety Giro Ros. Again, it's easy going and a huge crowd pleaser. Sunshine in a bottle.

Cati Ribot

Cati almost needs no introduction these days, as she has been spearheading the natural wine movement on the island for while. As mentioned, Eloi and Charlie have both worked out of her cellar in recent years which shows how tight knit the scene is there. She has been championing local grape varieties and creating lively and unique wines that have generated a real buzz on the island and beyond. You can find her wines in many restaurants round Mallorca which is always great to see.

Bosquet 2023 - A light red Pet Nat made from Escursac and Fogoneu grapes. Really wild and alive with candied and fresh fruit flavours. Another wine for the beach!

Cambuix 2022 - A juicy litre made from a blend of local red and white grape varieties. Serve chilled for maximum drinkability.

Happy Drinking!
