The Serious Side of the Brand Brothers

The Serious Side of the Brand Brothers

Mention Daniel and Jonas Brand to most natural wine drinkers and the immediate images that come to mind are fun, refreshing glou-glou hits like Wilder Satz, Brand Red, and Shake & Wait that all offer unbeatable value.

They have all been a staple on the shelves since the early days of Highbury Library and we even made the trip out to their vineyards in Bockenheim in the Pfalz region back in 2018 to see their organic plots firsthand. Over the years, their wines have consistently delivered pure joy, drinkability, and bang for your buck.

However, reducing the Brand brothers to just "easy drinkers" misses half the picture. Beneath that fun, accessible exterior lies serious winemaking craft, exceptional single-plot terroir, and an ability to craft complex, age-worthy wines that sit comfortably alongside Germany’s top natural benchmarks.

The Elegant & Serious Side of Brand Brothers

We’ve just landed three magnificent cuvées that showcase this elevated, terroir-driven side of their winemaking.

1. Pinot Blanc 'Holy Chapel' 2020 (£33.00)

Sourced from a special single plot of organic Pinot Blanc centred around an old chapel in the vineyard.

  • Winemaking: Hand-harvested, given an 18-hour skin maceration, and fermented with wild yeast. Aged for 1 year in old oak barrels followed by 5 full years of bottle aging prior to release, completely un-fined, unfiltered, and with zero added sulphur. (11% ABV)

  • In the Glass: The short maceration endows it with a gorgeous, tactile texture and fine structural framing. It’s mineral-driven and focused. A natural white built for the cellar or to pair alongside rich food dishes.

2. Riesling 'Monastery' 2023 (£35.00)

Coming from the brothers’ oldest plot of Riesling vines (over 60 years old), Monastery highlights pure vine intensity and classical focus.

  • Winemaking: 12-hour skin maceration, spontaneous barrel fermentation, and 1 year of aging in neutral oak. No fining, filtration, or added sulphur. (11% ABV)

  • In the Glass: The cooler 2023 vintage lends a leaner, acid-driven spine, yet it remains incredibly concentrated. Expect great length, razor-sharp precision, and serious aging potential.

3. Riesling 'Pur Magnum Only' NV (£52.00 – 1.5L Magnum)

An ongoing ongoing passion project where Daniel and Jonas select the single most unique barrel of Riesling from each vintage and bottle it exclusively in magnum format.

  • Winemaking: 12-hour skin maceration, barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts, and blended across multiple past vintages, including reserve wine dating all the way back to 2017. (11% ABV)

  • In the Glass: Bottled without fining, filtration, or added sulphu , this shows Riesling’s wilder, more complex edge. It offers layers of tertiary depth, vibrant acidity, and textural richness that only multi-vintage blending in large format can achieve.

Back to the Party: Introducing a Brand New Cuvée!

While we love diving deep into their single-plot, age-worthy bottlings, Daniel and Jonas haven't forgotten how to throw a party in a bottle. To round out the new arrival drop, we are excited to feature a brand new creation made for the very first time.

Rosé Pet Nat 2024 (£27.00)

  • Winemaking: Hand-harvested organic Pinot Noir grapes spent 3 days on the skins before fermenting naturally in a combination of stainless steel tanks and old oak barrels. Bottled under crown cap before fermentation finished to capture natural sparkling bubbles using the ancestral method. No fining, filtration, or added sulphur. (10% ABV)

  • In the Glass: Brimming with juicy red fruits, subtle leafy herbs, and a bright, lip-smacking acidity. It's lively, immensely thirst-quenching, and the ultimate pre-dinner aperitif to pop open with friends.

Whether you're looking for a serious, mineral-drenched bottle to linger over a meal or an unpretentious fizzy pink to get the evening started, the latest arrivals from Brand Brothers have every angle covered. Grab them online or pop in store to pick up a bottle...

Happy drinking!
