Brice Grizonnet's First Vintage

Brice Grizonnet's First Vintage

For anyone who has spent time exploring the wilder, more soulful corners of Beaujolais, the name Julie Balagny carries immense weight. She dedicated her life to her steep, untamed vines in Fleurie, producing some of the most incredibly pure and expressive natural wines we’ve ever had the privilege of tasting.

When Julie suddenly and tragically passed away in 2023, it left a massive void in the natural wine community. But her work, her philosophy, and her beloved vines didn't disappear.

Enter Brice Grizonnet, Julie's long-time friend and winery assistant. Brice has taken over the reins at the estate, stepping up to honour her legacy and carry on the vital work she started. This is his very first vintage under his own nam and we are proud to have these bottles on our shelves.

True to the foundation Julie built, these are organic, spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts, undergo long carbonic macerations, and are bottled with zero fining, filtration, or added sulphur. They are alive, deeply mineral, and breathtakingly beautiful.

We only received a tiny handful of each cuvée, so if you want to experience Brice's debut vintage, you'll need to move fast.

Brice Grizonnet – Fleurie Cayenne 2024

The Grape: Gamay

The Lowdown: Sourced from 50-year-old vines planted on unique basalt soils. It gets a 30-day carbonic maceration before spending 12 months resting in old barrels. Medium-bodied, incredibly graceful, and highly refined, you can expect a beautiful, tightrope balance of delicate florals, dark berries, and deep-lying mineral character.

The Grape: Gamay

The Lowdown: Grown on contrasting quartz and pink granite soils, this cuvée also underwent a 30-day carbonic maceration and spent a year in old oak. It leans slightly lighter in body than the Cayenne, delivering a gorgeous, perfumed purity of fruit paired with a distinct, stony mineral drive. Wonderfully balanced and completely captivating.
