Faedesfa, Veneto
In November, we were lucky enough to have dinner with Alberto Buratti when he was in town visiting from Colli Euganei in the Veneto region of Italy. It was clear that Alberto has a very special connections with his family. He arrived with a fresh salami which his grandmother had made. She told him it was too good to share and made him promise he wouldn't. Lucky for us, he broke that promise and I can confirm she was right - it was delicious! His uncle, Marco, is who introduced him to the concept of low intervention wine making and in 2019 Alberto decided to put into practice what he had learnt. He left his studies and returned to his home town to take over his Grandfather's vineyards. Since producing his first vintage in 2020 the wines are going from strength to strength.
Producing under the name Faedesfa, Alberto is working with some well known varieties as well as handful of local indigenous grapes. We currently have two cuvées on the shelves. Monello 2022 is a blend of Moscato and Merlot, a juicy, fruity red with an aromatic edge. One for the wild wine lovers and a reminder (as if we needed one) of why we love natural wine. Franko 2023 showcases the peppery and herbal elements of Cabernet Franc. Light and delicate but with a real depth of fruit and a hint of refrershing spritz!
