It's Alive! A bargain from 2Naturkinder
Franken (or Franconia) is a historical and cultural region of Germany that makes up a northern chunk of Bavaria. Long before Riesling became the country's superstar variety, white wine made from the Silvaner grape was cherished and no more so than in Franken. It thrives on the soils here and creates characterful wines that reflect the local terroir wonderfully.
2Naturkinder is the project of Michael Völker and Melanie Drese. They run their winery in the Franken village of Kitzingen and have been producing some of Germany's best natural wines for the last decade as well as creating a flourishing viticultural community in the area. The majority of cuvées are quite serious and have price points that reflect that which is why we are so happy to have an entry level wine from them that can act as a gateway for drinkers to begin to explore their vast portfolio.
Frankenliter is a Silvaner focussed wine with a supporting cast of Müller-Thurgau, Gewurztraminer and Kerner. Easy-drinking but full of life, this is a white wine that will probably never be made again. The grapes came from a neighbouring grower who was unable to use his fruit so Michael came to the rescue. A litre of natural wine at an incredible price. Grab one whilst you can!
