Introducing Marquesa - Your Orange Wine for Autumn
One of our biggest hits this Summer was an orange wine from Catalunya called Pim Pam. We poured it by the glass in the bar and everyone loved it. Sadly as we enter Autumn, the stocks are drying up and there won't be anymore until next vintage. At the time of writing we have 6 bottles left.
How lucky we are then to have another brilliant wine come along at an even better price. Introducing...
MARQUESA 2024
Also from Catalunya but a bit further inland near the town of Lleida, close to the border with neighbouring region Aragon, this is an orange wine made from Picpoll grapes. Yep, that's the Catalan name for Piquepoul (also known as Folle Blanche). Very exciting as we have never tried a skin contact wine made from this variety before and after tasting, it seems to suit the Autumn months perfectly.
Amber and gold in the glass, it already gives the impression of overly ripe fruit and fallen leaves. Pressed apple, lemon rind and peach flavours on the palate followed by a salty finish. The perfect wine to drink as the cooler weather sets in and at just 11% alcohol, a great option for a midweek glass!
