New from Mendall
Towards the end of last year we wrote about our visit to Mendall which you can read about here
Laureano's daughter Alicia is in the process of taking over the reigns from her father and came to London last week to show the latest wines that have just landed in the UK. Having studied Oenology in Tarragona (something Laureano never did), it is clear to see that Alicia is bringing some new precision to the Mendall project. Tasting the new cuvées, it feels like there is a great balance developing between her methodology and her father's free spirit.

Here is an overview of what has just arrived...
La Terme de Laureano Blanc 2024
This is a direct press of old vine Macabeo grapes which displays amazing acidity for such a warm and dry region. When you learn that the vines are 500m above sea level, it starts to make sense. Beautiful minerality alongside concentrated citrus fruit. Precise for a Mendall wine but by no means boring.
La Terme de Laureano Roig 2025

A slightly more rustic red made from the Carignan grape but everything is very well balanced. Rich and full with soft tannins, this is drinking well now but will keep getting better for years to come if you can be patient.
Velvet 2025
Mendall ventures into the world of rosé or "rosat" as they say locally. Made from the Garnacha Peluda grape variety (Hairy Grenache!), this is a wonderful hazy pink colour in the glass and explodes with candied raspberries, red apple skin and lemon. A great aperitif option.

It was great to catch up with Alicia and it's clear to see the future of Mendall is in good hands.
Happy drinking!
