Our Loire Love-In Continues: New Arrivals from Philippe Delmée

Every time a new arrival lands from Philippe Delmee (Domaine Les Goëlands), it feels like catching up with an old friend. Operating quietly under the radar in Anjou, Philippe has long been one of our favourite growers in the Loire. He effortlessly bridges the gap between serious, age-worthy terroir expressions and ultra-gluggable bistro-style bottles that you just want to drink by the bucketful.

Having visited Philippe at his cellar over the years, some of our fondest memories involve sitting amongst his barrels, tasting through various vessels while he spins records from his vinyl collection and shares his musings on life and low-intervention winemaking. His cellar embodies his approach: unpretentious, deeply authentic, and focused entirely on letting the fruit speak for itself without commercial yeasts, fining, filtration, or added sulphur.

On my latest visit back in May, he was excited to show us a new vintages and we fell in love with them immediately. Now the wines have arrived in London, we can't wait to share them with you. Our Loire love-in continues...

The New Arrivals

Les Ch'nins On Boit Et La Caravane Passe... 2024

Les Ch'nins On Boit Et La Caravane Passe...2024 Philippe Delmee French Chenin Blanc Organic Natural White Wine Anjou Loire France

Grape Variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
Region: Anjou, Loire, France | ABV: 13% | Price: £37.00

A cult wine that falls squarely into the "if you know, you know" category of Loire Chenin Blanc. Hand-harvested organic grapes underwent direct press before fermenting with indigenous yeasts and aging in old oak barrels for 10 months.

Rich, round, and beautifully textured, it delivers everything we adore about Anjou Chenin. Crisp orchard apple, bright citrus, and a lingering mineral core. It’s a medium to full bodied white that drinks wonderfully right now with food, but has the structure to age gracefully over the coming years. Whilst eating at the wonderful Nantes restaurant Le Mirza recently, I spotted a 2019 on the menu and it was absolutely superb!

If you're looking for quintessential light, juicy, and energetic Loire red, La Cane delivers on all fronts. A co-fermented blend starring native red grapes Pineau d'Aunis and Grolleau, lifted by touches of Grolleau Gris and Chenin Blanc. This is pure joy in a glass.

Bursting with crunchy red berries, white pepper spice from the Pineau d'Aunis, and a bright, refreshing acidity, it’s best served chilled alongside charcuterie, small plates, and good friends.
